Cycles are everything. It is the continuous movement of returning home over and over again. The idea of forever can seem unfathomable, even unbearable to some. Eternity in a straight line going on and on, never ending is ominous. But eternity in a circle constantly moves but keeps returning to itself. On our physical plane, everything moves in cycles. On a quantum level, all matter vibrates at a frequency of sound that moves in cycles. Our planet moves in cycles around our Sun. Our Moon moves in cycles around our Earth. Our bodies experience cycles many times; daily, monthly, yearly and even our entire life is a cycle of birth, life, death and transformation into something else.
Cycles is the 3rd of a trilogy of albums I set to put out 8 years ago, portraying the idea of 3 dimensions. The first album Process (2015) represented 1 dimension; the self, introspective and going inward. It had 6 songs on it, a number of balance and exploration. The 2nd album Sonder (2020) was the 2nd dimension; going outward and becoming aware of Other. There were 7 tracks, a number that longs for unity. Cycles is the 3rd dimension; up down and around into a realm we do not see, into the imaginary and spiritual world. There are 8 songs on this album. The number of completion and new beginnings. Turned on its side, it is an infinity symbol. There are 8 notes in a scale and when you reach the 8th you are back at the beginning again. A cycle that has brought you back home. The album goes in a circle, starting in spring, journeying through a year and ending where it began.
